WatchPAT At-Home Sleep Study

Evaluate your sleep from the comfort of your own bed.
Poor sleep, snoring, and daytime fatigue are often signs of sleep-disordered breathing — and they're closely tied to the airway health we focus on every day. The WatchPAT at-home sleep study makes it simple to find out whether a breathing problem may be affecting your sleep, without an overnight stay in a sleep lab.

What Is the WatchPAT?
The Itamar WatchPAT is an easy-to-use, at-home sleep study that allows patients to be evaluated for sleep-disordered breathing, including obstructive sleep apnea, while sleeping comfortably in their own bed. The device is worn overnight and monitors several signals, including oxygen levels, heart rate, breathing-related events, sleep stages, and snoring. The recorded information is then reviewed by a qualified medical provider and Dr. Moranda to help determine whether sleep apnea or other sleep-related breathing concerns may be present.
Why It Matters for Your Airway Health
At Schantz & Moranda Orthodontic Care, good health begins with good breathing. Obstructive sleep apnea and other forms of sleep-disordered breathing happen when the airway is partially or fully blocked during sleep — the same airway concerns that guide how we diagnose and treat. Identifying a breathing problem early gives us the information we need to plan the right care, and to collaborate with your physician or sleep specialist when appropriate.
Left unaddressed, sleep-disordered breathing can affect far more than a single night's rest. It's associated with daytime fatigue and poor focus, and in children can contribute to behavior and growth concerns. An at-home study is a straightforward first step toward understanding what's happening while you sleep.
Signs a Sleep Study May Help
A WatchPAT study may be worth discussing if you or your child experience:
- Loud or frequent snoring
- Gasping, choking, or pauses in breathing during sleep
- Restless sleep or frequent waking
- Waking up tired, even after a full night's sleep
- Daytime fatigue, trouble focusing, or morning headaches
- Teeth grinding or clenching at night
- Mouth breathing, day or night

How the At-Home Study Works
The process is designed to be simple and comfortable from start to finish:
1. Consultation
During your visit, we'll review your symptoms, health history, and airway, and determine whether an at-home sleep study is a good next step for you.
2. Take the Device Home
You'll receive the WatchPAT device along with simple instructions. There are no wires to a machine and no overnight lab visit — you wear it and sleep in your own bed, in your normal routine.
3. Sleep as Usual
The device records your oxygen levels, heart rate, breathing-related events, sleep stages, and snoring throughout the night.
4. Professional Review
The recorded data is reviewed by a qualified medical provider and Dr. Moranda to help determine whether sleep apnea or other sleep-related breathing concerns may be present.
5. Your Results & Next Steps
We'll walk you through what the study found in plain language and discuss the options that make sense for you — which may include orthodontic airway treatment, an oral appliance, or referral to and collaboration with a sleep physician or ENT when appropriate.
Benefits of an At-Home Study
- Comfortable — you sleep in your own bed, not a lab
- Convenient — no overnight stay and no complicated equipment
- Comprehensive — monitors multiple signals in a single night
- Connected to your care — results are reviewed with your airway and orthodontic treatment in mind
